About the Conference |
SMART goals, team norms and common planning time are all aspects of building a professional learning community, but they’re not enough to overcome the obstacles and inertia of collaborative work that appear, at times, to be insurmountable. Transforming schools into high-functioning learning communities is complex work that defies formulas and hard, fast rules. Matt King and Liz Keroack, practitioners who have worked with districts throughout the Northeast, will provide participants with the essential framework needed to actually take practical steps in moving a team, a department, a school, a district forward from wherever they may be. About the Presenters |
Elizabeth Keroack
Liz brings a special passion for working with teams of teachers and administrators to transform schools into learning communities. Her strong background in curriculum and instruction, honed through her experiences in five districts, enriches her staff development activities as she coaches educators to assume leadership roles in schools and in the district. She also draws on her wealth of experience to provide coaching to building and district leaders who are working to implement school reform initiatives. Liz is a frequent presenter and workshop facilitator for school districts and educational organizations. She is the author of numerous books and articles on curriculum change and education reform. Matthew King
Matt has also done extensive research and writing on school and classroom culture and climate and their impact on the improvement of student learning. He is the co-author with Jon Saphier of Good Seeds Grow in Strong Cultures and A Case For Development: Intersections Between Personal Growth and a Crisis in the Workplace. Matt provides training for school principals and other administrators on building a collegial culture that supports learning for everyone in schools and on enlightened approaches to supervision and evaluation that work. He also provides support to administrators who are developing comprehensive approaches to the induction and development of new teachers. In addition, he provides training to teachers who are interested in building a culture in their classroom that supports high level teaching and learning. |
