Following the highly successful January 2005 conference, "Education, Technology and the Future of Maine's Economy," this year's follow-up program will focus on workforce development with an emphasis on increasing opportunities for involvement from business and industry, as well as endowment and advocacy in Maine's Workforce Investment System.

The 2005 Conference focused on building a collective understanding of the skill sets needed by workers in the 21st Century economy. The 2006 Conference will further the discussion by detailing the alignment of various state initiatives and the relationships among the various stakeholder groups, with the focus on human resources, employment policy, and workforce preparation and improvement.

About Last Year's Conference

On January 24-25, 2005 nearly 400 participants attended this historic gathering bringing major education stakeholders, legislators, local policy makers, futurists and strategists into a dialog about Maine’s changing economy, the implications for schools and colleges, and the essential elements of successful and effective workforce development.

To inform the rich conversation, four prominent international leaders in education, Alan November, Willard Daggett, Marc Tucker and Seymour Papert, served as guest speakers. Participants engaged in discussion, analysis, and considered of implications for organizational planning, as well as state and local policy making. The event with its “hands-on” focus had as its goal the development of action plans.
